Fire Interruption Technology Knocks Down Kitchen Fire in Alberta
Edson, AB
January 2010
For the first time in 2010, firefighters from Edson Fire Department used their Fire Interruption Technology device to prevent spread of fire, buy time, reduce water usage, and reduce property damage.
When firefighters from the Edson Fire Department arrived on scene of a kitchen fire with their Fire Interruption Technology device, the kitchen was fully involved approaching flash over, and flames quickly spreading through a hallway to the living room. With the engine approximately 5 minutes away, the department's Command Officer deployed the device through the broken kitchen window knocking down the fire and buying valuable time until the engine arrived and water became available.
Deputy Fire Chief Tyler Robinson said that Fire Interruption Technology was “extremely effective in containing and controlling the fire; containing the fire to the room of origin and preventing spread of flames throughout the house.”
The department estimates that had it not been for Ara's device buying time and knocking down flames, much more water would have been required to fight the fire and the damage to the structure would have been significantly more.
No one was injured; the one occupant safely escaped through a bedroom window on the opposite side of the home.
This was the second Fire Interruption Technology deployment by Edson Fire Department. In their first deployment, the department used their device in a basement fire that yielded similar results.
