FIT Prevents Spread of Fire in NJ House Fire
Piscataway, NJ
October 2009
New Market Fire Company #1 used their Fire Interruption Technology device for the first time in response to a furnace fire in a Piscataway home, preventing spread of flames and reducing property damage.
A woman and a female minor who occupied the structure were able to escape safely after smelling smoke at approximately 9:45 AM. The New Market Fire Company #1 was immediately dispatched to the fire where responders found flames extending to the second floor causing significant damage and rendering the home uninhabitable.
Ara's device was thrown into the second floor of the house where flames were visible. According to Chief Lemire, Ara's device was thrown into a space void that was created on the second floor. The device activated and dropped down into the space, falling into the first floor, effectively preventing spread of flames.
The New Market Fire Company and the Office of Emergency Management responded to the fire, as did Middlesex and South Plainfield Fire Department. North Stelton Rescue Squad was brought to the scene to stand-by for injuries.
