Fire Interruption Technology Knocks Down 40-Foot Flames in Pennsylvania Home Fire
New Castle, Pennsylvania
September 2008
First to arrive on scene, Fire Chief John DiCola and Fire Captain David Congini arrived on scene to find 40-foot flames shooting from the roof of a single-story Pennsylvania home. With his crew still several minutes away and with limited water supply in the rural town, Chief DiCola knew it was only a matter of time before the entire structure collapsed. To buy time and prevent the spread of fire, Captain Congini suggested using Ara Safety's Fire Interruption Technology, the same tool that the department used to fight a basement fire two weeks prior.
“As soon as we popped [Ara's device] in there, we saw the aerosol fill the room and the visible flames ceased", Chief DiCola said of the deployment. “In this situation I would estimate that [Ara's device] bought our department additional 4-8 minutes, enough for 3 supporting area fire trucks to arrive with water".
3000 gallons of water were used to fully extinguish the flames. Chief DiCola estimates that twice this amount would have been required had Ara's device not been used. “[Fire Interruption Technology] has proven to be a very effective tool in our arsenal against the enemy", said Chief DiCola. “After two successful real-life applications, we're sold on the technology".
