Ara's device Buys Time, Reduces Water Usage, and Knocks Down Basement Fire
Shelter Island, New York
June 2008
When First Assistant Fire Chief Rowland from Shelter Island Fire Department arrived at the scene of a basement fire in Shelter Island, New York, black and grey smoke billowed from the basement. He kicked down the basement door and threw in his portable Fire Interruption Technology fire knock down tool. Ara's device knocked down the fire and bought 5 minutes until other volunteers from his department arrived at the scene.
The Assistant Chief and his volunteers used approximately 250 gallons of water and remained at the scene for 1.5 hours to completely extinguish the fire that originated in an electrical panel in the basement. First Assistant Chief Rowland estimates that, had the department not been equipped with Ara's device, they would have required 3 to 4 times more water and 3 more hours to fully extinguish the fire.
Fire Interruption Technology bought time, reduced water usage, and prevented the spread of the fire.
