Fire Interruption Technology Knocks Down NJ Basement Fire
Somerset, NJ
March 2010
The Elizabeth Avenue Fire Company and Deputy Chief Daniel Fredericks turned to Ara Safety’s Fire Interruption Technology to fight a basement fire in Somerset, NJ.
Upon initial assessment there was heavy fire in the basement that had vented through one window. Thick smoke was pushing through the cracks of the windows and door of the first floor; and the open stairway from the basement to the first floor was quickly spreading heat to the first floor. With the first engine en route, Deputy Chief Fredericks made the decision to deploy Ara’s device through an open window.
Upon deployment, Ara’s device knocked down a large portion of the fire and bought about 5 minutes until the engine arrived on scene. “I believe that [Fire Interruption Technology] gave us the extra few minutes needed to deploy the first line, and possibly lowered the temperature on the first floor to prevent it from flashing”, said Deputy Chief Fredericks.
The incident occurred in an end unit apartment in a four family residence. Majority of the fire damage was contained to the basement, with the first floor sustaining heat and smoke damage. Cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.
Firefighter One, Ara Safety’s Authorized Dealer in Somerset, was the dealer who equipped Elizabeth Avenue Fire Company with Fire Interruption Technology.
